The halo around the central character and the composition of the photo creates such an interesting mystical world.
Wilfredo Lam (1902-1982) was an Afro-Cuban Surrealist painter inspired by Santeria; he sold the most expensive painting at an auction today even though Diego Rivera’s “Girl in Blue and White” (1939) was esteemed as the highlight of the event.
this painting, “The Jungle” (1943), is a new favorite of mine.
this is a memorial tattoo for keith franks who passed away in september of 2006. the tattoo is based on a sort of ritual that we did. we would write down problems, secrets, insecurities, song quotes, book quotes, anything that was on our minds on index cards. we would then tie the cards to helium balloons and let them go on the median strip at central and mclean in memphis, tennessee. that is my fondest memory and i also feel like it carries a hopeful message. tony max at no regrets brought my design to life for me over a year ago and i couldn’t be more happy with the result. he is an amazing artist and an awesome person. i am proud to have his work on my body.
such a great idea!

If you only dream about things you know, and blind people can see images in their dreams, does that mean that blind people aren’t really blind? Or are their imaginations powerful enough to create images for things they know?
